Luke

My little brother Luke definitely got the “cool” genes in my family. I’m not sure how he got them, but he did. I’m pretty sure it was supposed to get passed down to the oldest child, aka me. I was the nerdy girl who was always in her room reading, journaling and making sketches of new designs for the JenChristine Boutique. Ahem, I was weird. Luke on the other hand does everything cool like being the most awesome drummer in the youth praise band, playing tons of spots and everything else that is awesome and rad. It wasn’t always so however. I remember many a day when he ran around the house shouting  ”Super Pooh Bear to the rescue!!!!” So not cool bro…so not cool. Hehe. He was the youngest of 4 siblings until another little brother came along 5 years later. I guess he had to get attention somehow! :) Now he’s 17 and I can’t believe it…he’s practically a man now! These are a few portraits I took of him while I was at my parent’s last week. He’s usually the one I take with me for little photo adventures. This time we were scouting out a new gem of a spot! Yay. He was my second shooter for one of my weddings and he’s getting pretty good at wielding a camera…and a guitar…and drum sticks…and pretty much everything else. I’m so glad to be the big sister of such a cool little brother. :)

Did your siblings steal your “cool” gene? :)

Blaze - March 14, 2012 - 3:39 pm

You have such a lovely blog and photography! I love how little brothers always have your back! I adore mine! :)

Natalie - March 14, 2012 - 4:23 pm

Yes. My sister totally stole what little cool genes were left in our family pool :)

This is a cute post. I was the youngest of four, but definitely wasn’t the “cool” kid in the family. I was by far the nerdiest of all my siblings. Your little brother does sound a lot like my little brother-in-law though. They are the same age, and good at everything. It is awesome to see him growing up, but sometimes I wonder how him and my husband are part of the same family, haha.

Also I really can’t imagine you being a big nerd, you are so cute and very talented. But I guess I have never met you in real life.

Yes! My younger brother totally stole the “cool” gene! I’m absolutely the reader, journal-er and photographer in the family. And my brother is the “cool” drummer and sports guy, with the curls that everyone loves but him. :)
I love your photography!

kylee - March 15, 2012 - 3:10 am

I have a little brother luke too! he’s definitely way cool. but only because his big sisters taught him everything we know :)

Message In a Bottle | The Story

I am a dreamer. There are ideas constantly darting back and forth in my head. Most of the time, my ideas don’t get very far. They are either down right awful, just ok or don’t work at present. Not all of my ideas will be brilliant, and that’s just a part of the creative process. However, sometimes I find one that might work and go after it. There is nothing better than when it finally comes to life. That is exactly what has happened to me lately and why I am so excited to be sharing this with you today.

A few weeks ago I challenged myself to tell a story with only images. My idea for it was in it’s infant stages. I had a few bits and pieces and I wasn’t sure how they could flow together: a story, love, a message in a bottle…I am a hopeless romantic at heart, so the idea of capturing love as it unfolded drew me in and consumed me. I have a growing passion for story-telling and I wanted to take it to the next creative level. Slowly the idea grew and became what you are about to see. I am  so happy with how everything came together. It’s a piece of a love story from start to finish. I have my own thoughts for what happened before this story begins, how these two came to love, what the message says, and how their story continues, but I will leave that up to your own interpretation.

For now I invite you to watch as this story unfolds…the story of a message in a bottle…

The Beginning

The end.

Many thanks to Sarah and Dylan, my awesome models who made this happen! You guys were perfect and I can’t thank you enough for going along with all my ideas and doing all the crazy things I had in my head!

A Prayer

“O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need for further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, so that I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, ‘Rise up my love, my fair one, and come away.’ Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered so long.”

Sister date

The bond of sisterhood is something so special. I love all of my siblings, but my sisters and I share something unique. It’s like you’re in a secret club. I really am so blessed to have 2 wonderful sisters in my life. I love spending time with them whenever I can. Today I decided to take my littlest sister to the library for a little “sister date”. We have a fairly small library in my hometown, but I kind of like the little rooms brimming with books. We did more goofing off than actually looking at books, but that ok. We found an old VHS of Snow White and my little sis had never seen it! (For shame!) Obviously it is my duty to show her the classics, so we had to check it out. In the end we walked out with 3 movies…and no books! Hehe. At least we had fun together! :) I’m so thankful for family!

I’ll be back soon with a super exciting post! ;) I hope you all are having a great week!

Sarah Kate - March 9, 2012 - 1:27 am

This is really sweet. You’re definitely right about sisters sharing a special bond. This made me miss mine a lot. We’d never lived more than an hour apart until this year. It’s really hard not being able to see her anytime I want!

Your sister’s shoes are pretty adorable, too!

Happiness is…

1. Mint nails…I’m loving the color mint for this spring, especially in nail polish! :)

2. An old bottle with a cork…I’ll be using this very soon and I can’t wait to show you guys!

3. Sessions with violins…enough said.

4. Cute little old men in Barnes & Noble…hehe. I love to see old people out and about together, especially if the little old man has suspenders. :)

5. Seeing my family more…I’ve been able to visit my family more often these past few months. I’m very happy about it!

6. Film…I’m really on a kick to learn more about film. I’d LOVE to get a Contax 645 to play with, but that will be quite a while. My AE-1 will have to do for now!

7. My hubby…he makes me so very happy. We’re going on 2 years and more in love than ever.

8. Spring decor…I love when Spring rolls around and I bring out my blue and green hues!

9. Pretty sunrises and sunsets…I’ve seen more lately.

10. Hot chocolate…mmm, I’m enjoying it before it gets too hot to drink it.

11. Ethiopia…I’m so excited about going back with my hubby this year!!! I can’t wait to see what God does!

12. Azaleas…they’re here! I love when they start blooming. They remind me of Spring-time as a little girl.

What is making you guys happy these day?
