The Motivation

You cannot sustain a God-given passion or fulfill a God-given dream apart from the One who gave it. He must be the motivation and the orchestrater. I have seen this in my life time and time again. Psalm 52:9 seems to be a reoccurring theme in my heart these days. Today I cannot help but…

Jen, you are a blessing – thank you for writing this!

Harriet - April 22, 2013 - 4:18 pm

Wow! What an exciting new chapter in your lives, praise Him whose plans are better than the ones we have for ourselves! You have such a way with encouraging and inspiring words, I love reading your blog and admiring the beauty in your photography as you live your life for Him.
We had this hymn as the last song in our wedding ceremony, thank you for reminding me of powerful words. x

Allison - April 22, 2013 - 4:39 pm

Wow, what a great reminder. Thanks for sharing. My husband and I are in the middle of a few projects that WE really want to happen, and we have to keep reminding ourselves that that is not the important factor.

Oh, Jennifer… this could not have come at a more better time. Thank you. And congratulations to the entrance of a new + beautiful season!

erin m. - April 22, 2013 - 10:30 pm

Congratulations on this new (awesome!) change. I too long to serve in full-time ministry, particularly in the church, if God would allow. It has been my dream for years. I trust that God knows that dream and that He is preparing to use me in the best way, as only He knows and could orchestrate. I celebrate with you and your husband as I totally get and relate to what you have written here!

Wayfaring Girl On A Mission - April 23, 2013 - 2:56 am

I can totally relate to this Jennifer! It’s been a little while but I wanted to say ‘hi’ and that your photography is stunning as ever. You said, “He must be the motivation and the orchestrater”-absolutely, or as in my case, I go no where really fast-despite my best intentions! I’m so thankful that he leads with his infinite wisdom so much better than I ever could fathom. The waiting on him can be so excruciating but when it is finally the ‘right time’ and the right doors open, it is an unfathomable blessing. I’m so happy you guys are doing what you are passionate about and fulfilled in as He leads you both. Blessings! Jeanine

Michelle Johnson - April 23, 2013 - 5:11 pm

Encouraging word Sis! It’s been a joy to watch God grow and use you and Jonathan. I’m so thankful God allowed me to be a part of y’all’s life this past year. There’s no other place I’d rather be :)

Antje Carrel - April 25, 2013 - 11:58 am

Thank you for sharing. It’s always a blessing to see how God is at work in other people’s lives. I really enjoy your posts on your walk with the Lord, they’re really encouraging! I hope you’ve heard of the Rend Collective version of “You are my vision”, it’s a great one. Blessings all the way from Switzerland! Antje

You’re Never Really Ready

You’re never really ready. Those words resonated in my heart like a loud voice in a cavern. The other night I was organizing my office while listening to some of Hillsong Conference on my iphone. Honestly, what could be a better compliment to clearing clutter than worship (and maybe eating a little tomato bisque)?…

Beautifully written Jennifer. Like you I come across being confident, but I also struggled with insecurities and the fear of failure. Love these verses you picked out. I’m so thankful for a God who uses me despite my imperfections!

Haha. Nope. I’m not pregnant! :) I will gladly share than info when the time comes!

This is such a good reminder that we don’t have to “have it all together.” God chooses to use us in our weaknesses so we have to abide all the more in Him. That is so humbling and freeing at the same time.

Lauren - July 5, 2012 - 2:25 pm

Thank you for posting this! It was very encouraging to me as I can feel the same way at times. God is faithful! :)

Emily grapes - July 5, 2012 - 2:33 pm

It did encourage! I know I thought that many times, that I’m not ready for something only to have God show me otherwise. He knows me far better than I know myself and strengthens me when I think I’m at my weakest.

I cannot agree more with all you’ve shared. We are never really ready when He calls us, but we must obediently follow anyway, trusting that His strength is going to be what gets us through. Awesome post, Jennifer!

Thank you for this sweet note. I’m 18 and heading off to India in a week and a half to teach MKs for six months, and the thought that keeps overwhelming me is, “I’m not ready for this!” I’ve waited and prayed for this day for so long, but now that it’s here I feel so unprepared. Thanks for the reminder that His strength is enough.

A face I can’t forget…

She was dancing in the middle of a road in Deli. While in India I saw many faces, many children, but she had my heart the moment I laid eyes on her. Her body contorted in unnatural ways as she danced her way down the jagged row of vehicles. She was a beautiful face clothed…

This is BEAUTIFUL. The picture is beautiful, your post is beautiful and even the lyrics right there. I just finished listening to Albertine :)

Mmmm I found myself, after studying social justice and being surrounded by academia, being so unsure what to do about poverty. Like you mentioned, she probably never got the money and those who are above her probably took it, but you still gave. I always struggled with that.
Ahk. But, I’m realizing more and more I can’t control that but I can give. I can love. I can share stories and thats exactly what I have to do.

Jen Z - April 26, 2012 - 7:49 pm

This is an absolutely gorgeous photo. She’s so young, but her eyes give the impression that she’s been through a lot in life already. I hope she ends up leading a good life…

(PS- Brooke Fraser’s music is amazing.)

Ethiopia…revisited in b&w

I decided to revisit my photos of Ethiopia. I wasn’t too crazy about them because I took them with my old Canon Powershot, but last night I processed a few of them and the black and whites really moved me. I can’t adequately describe these photos, but they seem to speak for themselves pretty well….
