My Kitchen Adventures | French Macarons

I'm not sure what has gotten into me, but I've become more adventurous in the kitchen lately. My husband is a very meat-and-potatoes kind of guy, but if I'm going to actually cook I like to have a little creative fun in the process. My favorite thing to do is make up everything as I go. That usually works out with entrées, but I have yet to find a dessert I can whip up with out a recipe. Believe me, my attempts have been nasty and disgusting failures. Baking just hasn't been my thing. However, after lots of "you'll never, ever get that to turn out" talk in my head, I decided to go for French Macarons. They actually didn't turn out half bad for my first go at it! I can see this being a fun little treat to make for a wedding reception...or have a friend make. :)

I used this recipe from Martha, of course!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 3/4 cup almond flour
  • 2 large egg whites, room temperature
  • Pinch of cream of tartar
  • 1/4 cup superfine sugar
  • Use whatever filling you like! (I used buttercream icing.)
I will definitely be trying this again. If you decide to attempt it as well, just make sure you use a real pastry bag and not just a plastic baggie. Let's just say that I ended up with lots of extra batter all over my kitchen somehow.

Happy Thursday friends!
