Monthly Archives: July 2012 My Granddaddy served in the US Army after graduating from high school. It was one of those hot summer days at their camp where all you could do was hope the watermelon truck would come by. Suddenly he heard a voice as clear as day saying, “When are you going to mean business for Me?”…  Well folks, we are back from vacation! It was so wonderful! These are just a few snapshots of our trip via my iphone. We spent a few days in the Smokey Mountains and then went up to visit my family in DC for the remainder of the trip. It was so nice to be away…

I visited D.C. in May and really just fell in love with it! It’s such a fantastic city.

i love the “things that fire me up” list. i’m going to make one of those! also, love that you have so many feminine touches still in your apartment. when we got married i let go of (or packed away) a lot of my super colourful college decor (pillows, candle holders, baskets, etc) because i felt bad making my manly man live in a place with too much pink, purple, and teal. but they are slowly making a comeback :)
You have styled this “cozy” space beautifully! :) I love the white bookshelf!! White definitely makes any room feel clean & fresh! And the branch for a curtain rod is really cute! I love the white curtain with the rustic wood!

I love it Jen! And I’m glad you have a small space because I live in an even smaller dwelling (one bedroom, sister has to sleep on the ugly couch when she visits) so it gives me hope that even a cosy area can look awesome!

Impressive organizational skills! I love it! For an apartment my living space isn’t too bad. Especially since I don’t have a roommate at the moment. 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Then after going to NYC in May and then just getting back from Chicago, I’m realizing that small spaces isn’t necessarily bad. If you know how to use the space, small isn’t bad at all!

This is so sweet Jennifer! Both of my grandparents were pastors and my Nana and Granddad were missionaries in Paris, Norway, and Greece for several years. Hearing their stories was always such a sweet blessing! Thanks for sharing :)
Wow, what a great story! All I kept thinking was how blessed we are to be born into Christian families.
You got me all tear-y at work! This is so sweet. When Rach and I would fight over the bathroom, my mom would always respond, “When *I* was growing up in Java we had *one* outhouse for *ten* people…” (Fill in the groans from two girls) Sometimes it takes us awhile to appreciate the legacy. :) We are definitely blessed.

beautiful post. I am so thankful for the christian legacy of my grandmother, who told me she prayed for me everyday. Now that I am older, I realize what a commitment that was. And to think that you will be a legacy for generations to come! Talk about some motivation!

Jennifer, this is a really beautiful post about the faith of your grandparents, and what an impact it has had on you. I actually just wrote a similar post about how my grandma has impacted my life (if you care to read, http://www.lydiamag.com/2012/07/what-ive-learned-from-my-grandmother.html). My grandpa was a pastor, and I loved hearing my dad talk about his family growing up. How wonderful that you are able to share these moments with your grandparents today. P.S. I am glad you are a C.S. Lewis fan, too. :)
